Fiona Lawton adds both a unique and international flavor to SG Collaborative Solutions™, joining Scott Griffith as a Partner and Collaborator, operating from Australia as FL Collaborative Solutions.
Fiona demonstrated exceptional leadership as Safety Programs & Promotions Manager at Airservices Australia, supporting the core operational services of air traffic control, aviation rescue & fire fighting, technical and engineering and more broadly, the work health and safety of the organization. Among her accomplishments, she led the early adoption of Just Culture, a significant overhaul of the organization’s event investigation process, built cross industry learning systems and focused extensively on the interplay between system design, human behavior and risk management.
Fiona has established an international reputation for her world-class collaborative skills through success in working with high-consequence industries across the globe. She has gained international acclaim as an industry consensus builder, working closely and collaboratively with regulators, service providers, operators, labor unions and government investigation bodies. With a background in cognitive behavioral psychology, extensive expertise in operational and enterprise risk management, and as a renowned training facilitator, she has built a career on her ability to bridge the gap between technical system expertise and the science of human behavior management – transforming these into powerful experiences for leaders, managers, unions, government officials and front line staff.
Fiona has led performance improvement implementations and organizational transformation with air traffic control providers across the globe, supported numerous large healthcare systems, emergency medical service providers, domestic and international airlines, transport and energy companies, and joint union/management collaborative projects.
Fiona has received numerous awards and recognitions, including Airservices Australia’s highest honor, the prestigious Chairman’s Award for Professional Excellence - for enhancing safety and risk management in the broader aviation industry. In addition to her certification in Just Culture and Event Investigation, Fiona has been a licensed Air Traffic Controller since 1995, and holds post graduate qualifications in Health Psychology from La Trobe University in Victoria; a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Melbourne University; and a Bachelor of Science in Aviation (Management) from the University of Western Sydney.
